Eric Kohn
Eric Kohn’s been in the thick of the film scene since, what, 2007? Total mainstay at IndieWire—Executive Editor and Chief Critic, running the New York film desk like it’s his own personal screening room. The guy never seems to sit still. He’s got his hands in everything: writing up reviews all year, mapping out festival coverage, keeping tabs on the ever-chaotic industry, and basically popping up at film festivals all over the map. If there’s a red carpet or a weird indie flick, odds are he’s already there with a notebook. He’s interviewed more film folks than most people have even heard of.
Eric’s not just about reviewing movies, though. He actually started Critics Academy, which is like this crash course for up-and-coming entertainment journalists—kind of cool, giving back to the next wave. He even teaches film criticism at NYU, so, yeah, he’s helping shape the next batch of movie nerds.
Before IndieWire, he was already hustling—writing for the New York Times and a bunch of other places. He edited a book of interviews with Harmony Korine (the guy behind “Spring Breakers,” if you know, you know) back in 2014. Oh, and he chaired the New York Film Critics Circle for a stint in 2018-19 and even sat on the Critics Week jury at Cannes in 2017. Basically, if you care about movies, this dude’s fingerprints are probably all over the conversation.
