Andy Mayson’s filmography is honestly kind of wild, if you think about it. There’s The Girl with All the Gifts—yeah, that eerie zombie flick with some actual brains behind the guts—which doesn’t just phone it in with your typical post-apocalyptic nonsense. It’s British, it’s bleak, and it’s got Glenn Close in a hazmat suit. The whole thing’s built around this weird fungus outbreak turning kids into half-zombie, half-human hybrids, and the main girl, Melanie, is just trying to figure out her place in a world that’s basically given up hope. Really, the movie’s got a lot more going on than just chomping and running. Then there’s Big Game—imagine Samuel L. Jackson as the President of the United States crash-landing in the Finnish wilderness. Outrageous, right? He teams up with this kid who’s out hunting in the woods as part of some coming-of-age rite, and together they have to dodge terrorists, helicopters, and whatever else the forest throws at them. The movie is way more fun than it has any right to be, with explosions, cheesy one-liners, and a healthy dose of ridiculousness. And, oh man, Guns Akimbo—Daniel Radcliffe running around in a bathrobe with guns bolted to his hands, chased through a city by maniacs for the entertainment of online viewers. It’s pure chaos, super stylish, and doesn’t care if it makes sense. Radcliffe’s character is basically just trying to survive a livestreamed death match, and somehow, it’s both hilarious and kind of stressful. Andy Mayson’s got a knack for the off-kilter, honestly.
