Romana Maggiora Vergano
Romana Maggiora Vergano, born in Rome on November 27, 1997, grew up with medicine in her blood—both her parents are doctors. But nah, she wasn’t about to follow the classic “my parents want me to be a doctor” storyline. Acting caught her attention when she was just eight, and that spark never really faded. By 18, she was already diving into the deep end at Scuola d'Arte Cinematografica Gian Maria Volonté, a pretty legit drama school. Even before graduating high school, she’d snagged her first TV gig in “Immaturi” — not bad, right? Paolo Genovese was overseeing things, which is just a casual flex.
Her early days weren’t all glitz, though. Imagine juggling night shifts babysitting and squeezing in acting classes. Hustle game strong. She started stacking up roles on both the big and small screen: playing Elena, an idealistic revolutionary in “Gli Anni Belli”; Michela, a troubled barista from the rougher parts of Rome in the offbeat supernatural series “Christian”; and Ludovica, the main character’s sister in Amazon’s Italian original “Anni da Cane.”
2021 rolls around, and she’s splitting her summer between New York and Buffalo, shooting a lead role in “Cabrini.” In that film, she takes on the part of a young Italian prostitute, freshly arrived in the U.S. in the 1890s—new country, new rules, total culture shock. Romana’s not just another face in the crowd; her career moves scream ambition, talent, and a bit of that Roman stubbornness that just doesn’t quit.
