Jon Erwin
Jon and Andrew Erwin, yeah, those guys—they’re the kind of filmmaking duo that just don’t sit still. Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, they jumped into the business way before most people even had a driver’s license, running cameras for ESPN at local university games. Not a bad teenage gig, honestly. Pretty soon, they were bouncing around college football fields, NBA courts, NFL sidelines, even the X Games. So, you can imagine, these two weren’t exactly new to the whole “high pressure, big stage” thing.
After clocking in some serious hours behind the camera, they decided, you know what? Let’s just do our own thing. They cranked up their own production company in 2002, diving into anything with a lens—commercials, docs, music videos, the works. And the music world? Man, they lit it up. Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Switchfoot, Skillet—if you’ve ever listened to Christian radio in your car, you’ve seen their work. The Dove Awards basically had their names on speed dial, with three wins in a row for Music Video of the Year and a truckload of nominations.
But they didn’t stop at music. They tackled documentaries, too—like The Cross and the Towers, which scooped up awards for telling a killer 9/11 story, plus the God Provides short films. Around 2010, they flipped the switch and went all-in on movies. First up was October Baby, a coming-of-age flick that actually broke into the top ten at the box office. Now? They’re cranking out a new comedy called Moms’ Night Out, set to drop in 2014. These brothers just keep leveling up.
