Just when you thought the style of dressing up was over, Lady Gaga steps in and keeps it going. Next month, the multi-talented entertainer and “Askew” cover star will star as Harley Quinn in “Joker: Pas de Deux,” starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix. During a press conference that kicked off earlier this week, the star paid homage to her on-screen character with a bold fashion choice. (You didn’t expect Gaga to wear a classic gown, did you?) She’s been intentional and thoughtful about her style over the years, choosing her outfits to reflect her current artistic moment. So, naturally, her Joker tour is totally themed.
The iconic Harley Quinn’s personality is twisted, a bit of a clown and a total sociopath. She loves bold eye makeup (often painting her face white), and her cartoon costumes are bright, cheeky and clown-like. Gaga is embracing this spirit with gusto. At the film’s London premiere, she wore a custom-made Celine creation: a bright red gown and puff-sleeved bolero jacket. It was an apt choice, as red is one of Harley’s signature colors, and Gaga paired it with luxury Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
However, some of Gaga’s clothing choices were less than flattering. Since the film is set in 1980s Gotham City, the star also chose vintage creations from that decade to pay homage to the project. According to La Maison Gaga, she chose a 1980s lace-trimmed Anthony Richards floral dress for a photo shoot in London this morning. Wearing sky blue shoes and red hair, she looked like she walked the carpet straight from the set.
