JERUSALEM, Sept 26 (Askume) – Israel said on Thursday it had received an $8.7 billion aid package from the United States to support its ongoing military efforts and maintain military superiority in the region.

The plan includes $3.5 billion for wartime essential purchases that have been received and are earmarked for critical military purchases, and $5.2 billion earmarked for air defense systems, including the Iron Dome anti-missile system, David’s Sling, and advanced laser systems.

Israel is currently fighting on two fronts, one against the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in Gaza, and the other against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.

The aid was announced following talks between Israeli Defense Minister Eyal Zamir and US defense officials, including acting Defense Secretary Amanda Dori, at the Pentagon, the Israeli Defense Ministry said in a statement.

It added, “This significant investment will significantly enhance critical systems such as Iron Dome and David’s Sling, while also supporting the continued development of the advanced high-power laser defense system, which is currently in the final stages of development.”

The ministry said the agreement “underscores the strong and enduring strategic partnership between Israel and the United States as well as Israel’s strong commitment to its own security,” particularly in countering regional security threats from Iran and Iranian-backed militias.
