Anthony Mackie, born and raised in New Orleans, grew up surrounded by the hum of his family’s roofing business—Mackie Roofing, shoutout to his parents, Martha and Willie Sr. The guy’s acting resume? Seriously stacked. He’s been everywhere: movies, TV, Broadway, Off-Broadway—you name it. Theater heads might remember him tearing it up in productions like “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Drowning Crow,” and “A Soldier’s Play.” But it was Carl Hancock Rux’s play “Talk” that snagged him an Obie Award back in 2002.
