Patrick Jonsson
Patrick Jonsson, a London-based film composer, has been quietly making waves in the movie scene for a while now. You might’ve heard his music in “The White Helmets,” that gripping short doc that nabbed an Oscar and even got him an Emmy nod for Best Score. Before that, he teamed up with director Orlando von Einsiedel on “Virunga”—yeah, the one with Leonardo DiCaprio as executive producer. That film was basically an award magnet, and people still talk about Patrick’s score—some even called it one of the top film scores of 2014.
He didn’t just stop there. He wrote the music for “Frame by Frame,” a documentary that hit SXSW and got him nominated for Best Documentary Score at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. Not bad, right? In 2016, he was juggling tons of projects, like scoring “Dog Days,” an indie Chinese drama that premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. Plus, he worked on “Moon Shot,” this web series all about the Google Lunar XPrize and produced by J.J. Abrams—so, you know, no pressure.
The guy’s also worked on BBC Three’s “Five by Five,” produced by Idris Elba, and just recently scored “On Her Shoulders,” which was all set to premiere at Sundance. And when he’s not composing his own stuff, he’s helped out on some major blockbusters—think “Thor,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” and “Brave.” Honestly, if you’ve watched anything big in the last few years, you’ve probably heard his work, even if you didn’t realize it.
