Rory J. Scovel, hailing from the not-so-sleepy town of Greenville, South Carolina, is a guy who’s clearly allergic to having just one job. He kicked things off back in 2011 with his debut stand-up album, “Dilation,” and honestly, he hasn’t really slowed down since. Two more hour-long specials later—“The Charleston Special” in 2015 and “Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up for the First Time” which hit Netflix in 2017—he’s basically cemented himself as one of those comics who can actually make you laugh out loud, not just politely exhale through your nose. And if you thought he’d just ride out on his comedy laurels, think again. He dropped a 75-minute special, “Live Without Fear,” on YouTube in 2021, because apparently he doesn’t care about sleep either. But Scovel’s not just a stand-up guy—he’s popped up on your TV, too. Maybe you caught him in the TruTV show “Those Who Can’t,” where he fit right in with the lovable misfits, or maybe you saw him in the 2018 comedy flick “I Feel Pretty” and thought, huh, that guy looks familiar. He’s even snuck into the writers’ room for “The Eric Andre Show,” which kind of explains his offbeat sense of humor. Lately, he’s been flexing his acting chops in the Apple TV+ series “Physical,” which he’s been part of since 2021.
