Romi Park
Ms. Park’s one of those voice actors who kinda snuck up on the anime scene and now you can’t imagine a handful of your favorites without her. Born in Edogawa, Tokyo back in ‘72, but with Korean roots, she’s got this knack for making her characters feel real, like they’ve actually got skin and bones instead of just pixels and ink. If you’re into Digimon, you’ve definitely heard her as Ken Ichijouji, aka the Digimon Kaiser, in Digimon Adventure 02. That whole arc? Her performance basically fueled all the drama, made Ken’s flip-flopping between villain and hero actually believable, which isn’t easy when you’re working with a dude in a cape and goggles.
But honestly, her big claim to fame has to be voicing Edward Elric in both Fullmetal Alchemist series—yep, the 2003 version and Brotherhood in 2009. Not to be dramatic, but she kinda owned that role. Ed’s stubbornness, his pain, that cocky attitude covering up his insecurities—it’s all there in her delivery. She’s got this gritty warmth in her voice that makes you root for Ed, even when he’s at his most reckless. And switching between those two versions of the show, she kept Ed feeling consistent but still managed to show how he changed and grew up. It’s wild how some voice actors just get it, you know? Ms. Park’s one of those rare ones who leaves a mark, whether you’re watching for the nostalgia or binging for the first time.
