Phil Hawkins
Phil Hawkins isn’t just another director ticking boxes—this guy’s all over the map, and honestly, it keeps things interesting. He’s not afraid to jump from Greek tragedy to indie comedy, then flip the script with a psychological thriller. Seriously, he’s done it all, and you can see that wild variety in his movies. Sony, Netflix, Lionsgate—you name it, he’s probably handed them something cool. But there’s always this gritty, emotional punch running through his stuff. Nothing feels phoned in.
His big studio break? “Prancer: A Christmas Tale.” Not your average holiday fluff—James Cromwell (yeah, that James Cromwell) brings some heavy-duty acting to the mix, and it’s all wrapped up for Universal and Sky Studios. Then, he goes and swings again with “Robin And The Hoods.” Talk about leveling up. Naomie Harris and Gwendoline Christie leading a pack of young talents, in a mashup that’s been called “The Goonies” if it had a sword fight with “Game Of Thrones.” That’s coming out Summer 2024, and honestly, it sounds nuts—in a good way.
Oh, and don’t think he’s just working for the big guys. Hawkins got a little obsessed (in the best way possible) and dropped three years making “Star Wars Origins.” We’re talking Sahara Desert, action-adventure vibes straight out of his love for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, and a budget that’d make fan-filmmakers weep. Even Mark Hamill shouted it out. It’s wild, it’s bold, and critics basically lost their minds over it. That’s Hawkins—never boring, always swinging for the fences.
