Jacob Lofland
Jacob Seth Lofland grew up in the little Arkansas town of Briggsville, where his parents, Debra and Billy, probably had no clue their kid would end up starring in movies alongside Matthew McConaughey. His big break? That wild ride started when he spotted an open casting call for Mud in a newspaper—seriously, who even checks newspapers for auditions anymore? Anyway, he saw Neckbone’s character description and was like, “Yeah, that’s just me.” Turns out, he wasn’t wrong. The dude already had experience boating and riding bikes, which was exactly what the director, Jeff Nichols, wanted. So, Jacob hops on his first ever airplane to Austin (probably nervous as hell), auditions for Nichols and producer Sarah Green, and boom—he gets the part in less than a day. Fast forward a month, he’s on set surrounded by cameras, lights, and a bunch of Hollywood types. Not bad for a small-town kid.
When he’s not on a movie set, Jacob keeps it real with stuff like fishing, boating, and hunting—pretty much your classic outdoorsy Arkansas hobbies. Oh, and he’s been riding dirt bikes since he was six, which is kind of adorable and hardcore at the same time. Then, after tagging along to dirt track races with his family, he got hooked on go-kart racing at 11, eventually moving up to the 600 MiniSprint. Basically, Jacob’s the kind of guy who’d rather be outside getting muddy than sitting around inside. No wonder he nailed the role of Neckbone.
