Then there’s Doree, which dropped in 2023. That one’s kind of a curveball – more serious, dives into the world of bonded labor, child rights, all that heavy-hitting social stuff. It doesn’t sugarcoat things, either, and honestly, it sticks with you way after the credits roll. Not everyone can pull off switching gears from comedy to drama like that, but Jay seems to do it without breaking a sweat. Don’t forget Gathbandhan from 2019, which took the whole gangster-meets-cop love story trope and actually made it feel fresh. The Mumbai underworld, corrupt politics, forbidden romance – sounds cliché, but it didn’t play out that way. Hangal were also thrown into the cast stew. Triveni-Bhavani did the music, so you just know there must’ve been at least a couple of bangers in there, even if they never hit the airwaves. The whole thing was supposed to be this passion project by P.R. Chatterjee and Arceemajor Nanda, but for whatever reason, the movie just… fizzled out before it could even hit theaters.
