Storyline
Hasan (Hakan Balamir) comes from the countryside, working his way from opium fields to the chaos of Istanbul, and lands a gig at Bilal Masters’ (Erol Taş) factory. The city’s changing fast—factories are popping up, unions are starting to stir, and the bosses aren’t thrilled when workers start pushing back. Bilal Masters, the classic hard-nosed boss, isn’t exactly popular with his workers. Somewhere in the mess, Hasan meets Hacer (Hülya Koçyiğit), who’s just returned from Germany after being abandoned by her husband and two kids. Feelings spark between them, but life at the factory is rough. Machines break, accidents happen—someone even loses a leg. There’s union drama, too, which wedges itself right between Hasan and Hacer. She eventually gets involved with the union, and Bilal Masters isn’t having it. Shame and anger swirl around, especially as Hacer starts standing up for herself. Lütfi Akad’s trilogy zooms in on migrant struggles in the city, and this film dives deep into the tension between workers and bosses. Oh, and it grabbed a couple of big awards at Antalya.
