Amit Trivedi kicked off his music hustle back in college at Rizvi, jamming with this fusion band called "OM". They landed a record deal with Times Music—sounds fancy, right? But nah, it flopped hard ‘cause nobody bothered to promote it. Classic music industry move. So, Amit’s grind didn’t stop there—he was hustling with ad jingles, banging out background scores for TV and theater, just trying to keep things moving. There was this two-year contract with Sony BMG too, where he tossed in a few tracks for Abhijeet Sawant’s "Junoon" and even did a song for Prashant Tamang’s debut. Then, Shilpa Rao—yep, the singer—ended up connecting him with Anurag Kashyap. Anurag was on the hunt for a composer for his wild project, Dev.D. Amit’s music totally blew him away, so much that Anurag went, “Alright, let’s just make this whole film a musical.” Dev.D was supposed to be Amit’s big entry, but thanks to those typical delays, it got shelved for a bit. Meanwhile, Anurag hooked him up with his first Bollywood release, Aamir, in 2008. But Dev.D, when it finally dropped in 2009, was a total game-changer. The guy nabbed a National Film Award for Best Music Direction, plus two Filmfares and a Star Screen award for the same flick. Amit kept teaming up with his old college buddy Amitabh Bhattacharya, churning out hits for movies like Wake Up Sid and Udaan. He’s all about making music that fits the movie, not just churning out random tracks for the sake of it. His jam? Jazz, rock, a bit of western classical, and he’s got a thing for instruments like the clarinet, oboe, mandolin, and harmonica.
