Grew up in LA, right in the thick of it—streets of Westwood were basically his backyard. The kind of kid who’d duck into movie theaters without a ticket, just to catch a glimpse of whatever was playing. Ended up at UCLA Film School, cranked out a thesis film called “Shadow Box” that actually took home Best Student Film. Not too shabby. That was back in ‘92, and honestly, you could already tell the guy had something cooking. Started out hustling as a rap music-video director, which, let’s be real, is a far cry from mainstream Hollywood but definitely a grind. Then, in a pretty wild turn, he and Paul Scheuring (yeah, that Paul Scheuring) hammered out a script called “Black Ocean.” Next thing you know, Oliver Stone gets his hands on it in ‘93. Boom—screenwriting career officially launched. Not everyone gets that kind of break. Since then? He’s the dude studios call when their script needs some extra heat but nobody’s supposed to know. Plenty of big flicks have his fingerprints all over them, even if you won't spot his name in the credits. Guy’s like a behind-the-scenes fixer, the one pushing a project from “eh” to “now we’re talking.” Never really one for the spotlight, but ask around and people know—he’s the reason a bunch of those movies actually work. LA kid, movie nerd, script doctor. What else do you need?
