Christopher Cook
Christopher Cook, yeah, this guy’s got serious musical chops. He’s racked up awards and buzz as a composer over in Suffolk, UK, and honestly, his style is all over the map—in the best way. People call his music “imaginative, colourful, and thoroughly engaging,” and honestly, that tracks, because his stuff has been played everywhere. We’re talking orchestras and ensembles all across the UK, even the US, and he’s been on BBC Radio 3 more than a few times.
He’s not just hanging around the concert hall, either. Cook’s written soundtracks for a bunch of feature films you can catch on Amazon Prime. Remember ‘Code of Silence’ with Stephen Moyer? That’s him. Or ‘Wolves of War’ with Rupert Graves, Ed Westwick, Matt Willis—yeah, he scored those, too.
Cook’s background is pretty solid—he came out of the Royal Northern College of Music. Back in 2022, he snagged the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s ‘Rushworth’ Prize, which is a big deal over there, and they had him write a brand new piece for the RLPO ‘Ensemble 10:10.’ That one got performed at the Yoko Ono/John Lennon Tung Auditorium (very cool), with Gabriella Teychenné conducting. Then, early in 2023, the BBC Philharmonic took on his big orchestral work ‘Flow State’ for the RNCM’s 50th anniversary, with Elena Schwarz at the baton.
Oh, and he’s not just doing orchestras—he also won the Brookwright International Brass Band Composition Competition in 2022 for ‘Excursion,’ which got played at the RNCM Brass Band festival and published by Brookwright. Basically, Cook’s everywhere, and he’s not slowing down.
