Costas Mandylor
Costas Mandylor—yeah, that guy—he’s probably best known for playing Detective Mark Hoffman in the whole Saw franchise, and honestly, if you’ve watched any of those movies, you know he’s a big deal. Born in Melbourne to Greek parents, he kicked things off in the late ’80s, snagging his first film part in Triumph of the Spirit (1989). But it wasn’t until Picket Fences aired on CBS in ’92 that he really started popping up on people’s radar—playing Officer Kenny Lacos got him nominated for a couple of SAG Awards, which is no small feat.
He didn’t stop there, though. Mandylor took on the role of Frank Costello in Mobsters back in ’91 and has basically bounced around a ton of projects since then—think Fist of the North Star, The Game of Their Lives, and later In Like Flynn. But, let’s be real, Saw was his ticket to cult status. He showed up for a quick bit in Saw III, then boom, suddenly he’s front and center as the main bad guy for the next handful of sequels. Wild ride, right?
Here’s a twist: before all the acting, he was actually playing professional soccer over in Europe. Then he changed gears, moved to the States, and switched to acting. Oh, and his stage name? Nabbed it from his mom’s maiden name. Family’s got acting in the blood, too—his little brother is Louis Mandylor. And just for a little extra flavor, back in ’91 People magazine decided he was one of the “50 Most Beautiful People.” Not bad, honestly.
