David Baron

David Baron, a cinematographer hailing from Alberta, isn’t your run-of-the-mill camera guy—he’s the kind of person whose credits read like a greatest-hits album of Canadian TV. He’s bounced between gigs for all sorts of broadcasters—NBC, CBC, Crave, Cottage Life, A24, CTV, you name it—and he’s managed to leave his mark on every project. His work on "Wild Rose Vet," which dropped on Cottage Life and APTN in early 2022, captures Alberta’s wild spirit and the grit of those who call it home. Then there’s "Blind Ambition: The Wop May Story," a documentary short he shot on good old 35mm film. That one snagged both Best Documentary Short and the audience choice award at the Edmonton International Film Festival, so…not exactly a sleeper hit. Baron’s also behind the camera for "Queen of the Oil Patch" Season 2, bringing a punch of color and attitude to the screen since June 2020. Before that, he shot "The Former Life of Amber Valley," a project that scooped up a Canadian Screen Award back in 2018. You can tell the guy’s got a thing for stories that dig deep into Canadian history and culture, but he keeps it fresh—never preachy or stiff. Fast forward to 2023, and he bagged a nomination for Best Photography, Lifestyle or Reality/Competition at the Canadian Screen Awards. That’s not just a pat on the back; it’s proof he’s still got skin in the game and isn’t slowing down.
