David Gray

David Gray? Oh, he’s one of those guys who just doesn’t sit still. Born in Jersey, now parked in Bloomington, Indiana—but don’t worry, the Jersey attitude’s still alive and kicking. Over the last four years, he’s cranked out a wild eight screenplays and three TV pilots. Two of those scripts got optioned, including Aunt Jeannie, which basically cleaned up at the Reno-Tahoe Screenplay Contest and landed in the hands of Mad Wife Productions. Guy’s also moonlighting as a Writer/Script Consultant for Lady With A Hat Productions, just in case he wasn’t busy enough. David’s scripts have made some serious noise, landing over 90 competition placements. We’re talking the Academy Nicholl Fellowships, Top Ten in the Big Break, and a Top 5 spot in the Laugh or Die Comedy Contest. Not bad for someone who started out slinging drinks and writing in New York. Speaking of which, he spent three years at Joe Allen’s, probably collecting stories and tips in equal measure. Before Hollywood came calling, David was deep in the nonprofit world. He kicked things off at New York City Ballet, then jumped around to leadership gigs everywhere from the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault to the Pennsylvania Ballet. Somewhere in there, he even found time to write books—like Escape from Verona, which flips the Romeo and Juliet story on its head (yep, they fake their deaths and hit up Venice). He’s married to a former New York City Ballet ballerina, now a prof at Indiana University, and their two sons? One’s making movies in LA, the other’s hitting the books at Whittier College, which just gives David another excuse to hop on a plane to the West Coast.
