Eon-hee Lee
Lee Eon-hee—yeah, the one who goes by E.oni sometimes—kicked off her film journey right out of film school at Korea National University of Arts, first graduating class, back in ’95. Not a bad place to start, honestly. Her first real taste of a movie set was on The Happy Funeral Director in 2000, where she basically wore a bunch of hats: assistant director, script supervisor, you name it. She wasn’t just hanging around for the credits either; she jumped into screenwriting, too, helping out with the script for Take Care Of My Cat, which, if you’re into indie films, you probably know is a big deal. Her debut feature, ...ing, landed in theaters and people actually noticed—like, really noticed. The film got a warm reception and, weirdly enough, blew up in Japan, of all places. The buzz was so loud that Amuse Entertainment, a Japanese studio, asked her to direct Love Exposure, a rom-com, in 2007. That’s not something that happens every day—crossing over like that. Then, after a bit of a breather (okay, nearly a decade), she made a pretty solid return with Missing in 2016, proving she wasn’t just a one-hit wonder. So yeah, Lee Eon-hee’s filmography doesn’t mess around—she’s done a bit of everything, and the industry keeps calling her back for more.
