Evan Williams

Evan Williams grew up in Alberta, mostly hanging around Calgary, with a dad who’s an engineer and a mom who dives deep into art. Guess you could say creativity runs in the family—his folks always had his back, letting him chase whatever lit his fire. He got his first taste of the stage belting out tunes in church choir and messing around in musical theater. Wild enough, he even landed in Moscow doing street performances, which isn’t exactly your average childhood field trip. High school rolled around and bam, he snagged the lead in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.’ That’s when acting really got its hooks in him. From there, it was Summerstock Conservatory in downtown Calgary—lots of musicals, lots of late nights, and he even picked up the Phyllis Pope Award for playing a totally offbeat Rabbi in ‘Fiddler On the Roof’ back in 2004. He kept chasing the dream, graduating from Ryerson Theatre School, and before long, people started to notice. ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’ gave him a shot as Kelly Ashoona and suddenly, he was showing up everywhere: ‘The Border’, ‘Instant Star’, ‘Being Erica’, even a creepy flick called “A Flesh Offering” and HBO’s “Grey Gardens” with Drew Barrymore. He snagged the lead in ‘Baxter’—a show about a performing arts high school—where he could flex both his acting chops and some musical skills on piano and guitar. There’s also his Hallmark gig in “The National Tree” with Andrew McCarthy. When he isn’t on screen, you’ll catch him on stage, most recently in Sam Shepard’s “Cowboys #2.” These days, Evan’s calling LA home, still chasing that next big role.

Did you know

    • Trivia:

Studied theatre at Ryerson University in Toronto, which honestly, is kind of the go-to move if you’re serious about acting in Canada. Ryerson’s like this hub for creative types, you know? People walk in with big dreams and way too much caffeine, and they come out ready to take on the stage or screen—or at least, that’s the plan. Toronto itself is wild too. It’s this mix of weird weather, insane food, and that whole “big city energy” thing. You’re hitting up late-night rehearsals and then maybe grabbing a poutine at 2am with your castmates. The city has this vibe where everyone’s hustling but also, like, rooting for each other. Studying theatre here isn’t just about memorizing lines or nailing auditions; it’s about figuring out who you are while you’re juggling scripts and maybe some homesickness. Honestly, if you can survive a Toronto winter and a Ryerson theatre final, you’re basically unstoppable.
