Fernanda Torres
fernanda torres is basically brazilian showbiz royalty. born in rio, she’s the daughter of acting legends fernando torres and fernanda montenegro—yeah, *that* montenegro from central station. fernanda dove into movies at just 16, kicking things off with “innocence.” after that, she bounced from one killer project to another: “four days in september,” “love me forever or never” (which snagged her the cannes best actress prize), “house of sand,” “foreign land,” and then, “i’m still here,” which earned her even more awards in 2024.
but she doesn’t just do serious stuff—she absolutely crushed it in comedies, too, like “os normais” (both the mega-hit tv series and its box-office-smashing movies) and “tapas e beijos.” both ran for ages on brazil’s biggest tv network, making her a household name. she’s never given up on theater, either—her solo show “a casa dos budas ditosos” has wowed over a million people since 2003.
then, at 40, fernanda switched gears and started writing. she’s penned two novels, “end” (which sold over 200k copies and got translated all over the place) and “glory and its litany of horrors.” she’s also written for tv and film, even adapting “end” into a series for globoplay. add in a regular column at folha de s. paulo and, well, she’s basically done it all. she’s married to director andrucha waddington, has two sons, and holds both brazilian and italian passports. talk about a full plate.
