Houston King

Houston King’s got one of those filmographies that just keeps stacking up with indie gems. Lately, he’s been behind THE SAND CASTLE, Matty Brown’s big debut—think Nadine Labaki, Ziad Bakri, Zain Al Rafeea, and Riman Al Rafeea, all in one film. And that’s not all—he produced THERE THERE with Andrew Bujalski, lining up Jason Schwartzman, Lili Taylor, Molly Gordon, and Lennie James, and Magnolia handled the release. Now, HEARTS BEAT LOUD? Yeah, that one’s Brett Haley’s feel-good flick with Nick Offerman and Kiersey Clemons—super charming. And SUPPORT THE GIRLS, another Bujalski project, gave us Regina Hall’s knockout performance, racking up Gotham and Spirit Award nominations. Back in 2017, Houston cranked out THE HERO and LEMON (The Orchard and Magnolia dropped those), and somehow found time to exec produce THE REAGAN SHOW, a doc that hit CNN. Let’s not forget RESULTS, with Guy Pearce, Cobie Smulders, and Kevin Corrigan, which made its mark at Sundance in 2015. ANESTHESIA, starring Sam Waterson, Glenn Close, and Kristen Stewart, also got his executive touch and premiered at Tribeca. Houston’s basically been Andrew Bujalski’s go-to producer, handling features like The Beautiful Game, Godspeed, Beeswax, Computer Chess, and The Trip. Besides producing, he’s distributed or handled the rights to about 60 more films and led the outreach for the doc BULLY. Before all this film hustle, he was deep in finance at Lehman Brothers and ING Barings, and he’s a Boston University grad.
