Jeannette Garcia

Jeannette’s obsession with film wasn’t just a phase—it’s pretty much woven into her DNA. As a kid, she’d sit through entire movie credits (who even does that?), gobbling up reviews like popcorn and inventing her own system to judge movies long before Rotten Tomatoes was a thing. At nineteen, she ditched Quebec for Los Angeles to learn makeup, chasing this wild Oscar dream most people would’ve laughed off. But nope, she just kept going. Once she was back home, she didn’t take it easy. Instead, she jumped straight into running Icari, a private animation school, and then moved on to Telefilm Canada. That’s where she started devouring scripts, soaking up every part of the filmmaking process, and bumping into folks like Pierre Even. He was running the feature film unit at the time, and she basically followed his lead to Cirrus Communications (which later became Attraction) and then to Item 7. Since April 2010, Jeannette’s been a mainstay at Item 7, throwing her fifteen years of TV and movie know-how into projects left and right. Her credits? Let’s just say they’re not nothing—she’s worked on La galère, The War of the Sexes, Naked Josh, and a couple dozen feature films, including C.R.A.Z.Y. and War Witch. In 2018, she dropped her first short film, Fareed, and handled the behind-the-scenes material for The Hummingbird Project. Plus, she’s been a mover and shaker in women-in-film organizations and is active in the Academy of Cinema and Television. Basically, if there’s a film scene in Canada, Jeannette’s somewhere in the middle of it.
