Jesper Morthorst
Jesper’s got a resume that’s honestly kind of wild for anyone in film. He’s not just some behind-the-scenes guy—he’s been the producer driving acclaimed features like Tea Lindeburg’s “As in Heaven” (2021), which snagged the Nordic Dragon Award for Best Film at Göteborg, and “Hjartasteinn” (2016) from Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson, which picked up the Queer Lion at Venice. These aren’t just throwaway credits—those films actually made waves. Plus, Jesper’s got a thing going with Bille August, yeah, the two-time Palme d’Or winner. Together, they’ve rolled out “Stille hjerte” (2014) and “The Pact” (2021). Kind of a big deal, right?
But he’s not boxed into films. Jesper’s also the brains behind several TV hits, including all five seasons of the fan-favorite “Rita,” that TV 2/Netflix series everyone binged. That gig even got him a nod as ‘Outstanding International Producer’ at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival. Back in 2011, Cannes picked him as Denmark’s ‘Producer on the Move.’ Not exactly your average LinkedIn badge.
He’s bounced around the industry, too—worked at SF Studios, Alphaville Pictures Copenhagen, and Nimbus Film over the years. These days, Jesper’s running his own show at MOTOR, the production company he started up with screenwriter Christian Torpe in 2018. Basically, he’s been everywhere, done everything, and he’s still out here shaping what people actually want to watch. Not bad for a guy who seems to have a new hit every other year.
