Joram Willink
Joram Willink? Oh, that dude’s a force in the film world, no kidding. He runs BIND, which cranks out movies that actually mean something—none of that empty-calorie stuff. The guy’s got his fingerprints all over projects that punch you right in the conscience, working super tight with writers and directors to cook up stories that get people talking, maybe even marching in the streets. His shelf’s starting to groan under the weight of awards: International Emmy, a couple Golden Calves (that’s basically the Dutch Oscars), Berlinale nods, Prix Europa, even De Tegel—the Dutch version of the Pulitzer. That’s not even the whole list. He’s everywhere.
You might’ve caught "The Judgement" (2021), or "My Extraordinary Summer with Tess"—that one kicked off at Berlinale Generation in 2019, all sunny and bittersweet. Then there’s "Son of Mine" (a.k.a. Gluckauf), which made noise at the IFFR Tiger competition, and "Shouf Shouf Habibi," which hit Berlinale Panorama back in ‘04—classic. Short films? He’s loaded up with those too: "Anything Goes" snagged an Emmy, "Great!" got a shiny Silver Bear at Berlinale, "Mimoun" was up for an Emmy, and "Gamechanger" even made it to SXSW. "Kings Day" cleaned up at TIFF and Chicago ICFF, and don’t forget the Golden Calf winners like "Jungle" and "A Good Life." Oh, documentaries? He’s got those too—like "The Butlers," which scooped up the Prix Europa, and "A Thousand Fires" that made the rounds at Locarno, IDFA, and CPHdox. Basically, if it’s bold and makes you think, Willink’s probably behind it.
