Kate Fenton
Kate Fenton’s career basically reads like a masterclass in doing all the things. She kicked things off in Humber College’s very first Comedy Program—yeah, she was one of the originals. Then boom, Phil Hartman Award nom right out of the gate. She’s got an MFA in acting from York, plus she went through every corner of Second City’s Longform and Improv Conservatories, so she knows her way around a punchline. Oh, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and ProActors Lab? She’s got that on her resume too.
Not to make you jealous, but Kate co-founded The Quickening Theatre, which isn't just some random indie company. They straight-up won a Dora Award. While she was there, she wore basically every hat possible—playwright, director, actor, producer, general manager. The company racked up a load of wins: Dora Mavor Moore for Outstanding New Play, Best of the Fringe, a bunch of nominations from NOW Magazine for everything from Direction to Performance to Design. The Toronto and Ontario Arts Councils threw funding their way, which says a lot.
Her stuff’s been all over—Toronto International Film Festival, Theatre Passe Muraille, Young People’s Theatre, Vancouver East Cultural Centre, even CBS, Lifetime, and Discovery. She’s had work shown at film festivals all over Europe and North America. If you’re in Toronto, you could catch her doing improv with ‘Abra Cadaver’ or sketch comedy with her duo ‘Adulting.’ She’s basically everywhere, and she somehow makes it look easy.
