Lachlan Anderson
Lachlan Anderson’s journey into the world of film scores? Not exactly your classic route. He kicked things off slapping the bass in New Zealand’s raucous post-punk outfit Die! Die! Die!—a band that definitely doesn’t whisper. These days, though, he’s swapped sweaty venues for soundtracks, and he’s absolutely killing it on the composing front.
He’s the musical mind behind the score for “Dood Spoor/Dead End,” a fresh, dark comedy series from Malin-Sarah Gozin (yeah, the same one behind “Bad Sisters,” “Tabula Rasa,” and “Clan”). Malin’s pulling double duty as showrunner and co-director, tagging in Hans Vercauter for the gig. This isn’t their first creative rodeo together, either—Lachlan also cooked up the moody sounds for the Netflix psychological thriller “Tabula Rasa.” Apparently, bringing the right atmosphere is kind of his thing.
But it doesn’t stop there. Recently, he put his stamp on Sasha Rainbow’s debut body-horror flick “Grafted” (which you can catch on Shudder, if you’re up for a wild ride), and he’s the sonic force behind David Farrier’s “Mister Organ,” the offbeat investigative doc now streaming on Netflix. Farrier, if you’ve somehow missed him, is the guy behind “Tickled,” “Dark Tourist,” and “Flightless Bird”—so, you know, expect weirdness.
Lachlan’s got this knack for weaving tension and mood, whether he’s working on twisted documentaries or offbeat comedies. Each project he touches feels a bit more alive—and, honestly, a little stranger—in the best way possible.
