Magnus Millang
Magnus Millang, born smack in the middle of Copenhagen in 1981, is basically a Danish comedy machine. The guy’s got acting chops, sure, but he’s also a director and screenwriter—one of those annoying multi-talented people who just keeps popping up in top-tier projects. His big breakthrough on the silver screen came in 2014 with Thomas Vinterberg’s “The Commune.” Millang must’ve made a pretty solid impression, ’cause he stuck around for Vinterberg’s next film, “The Command,” and then landed a role in “Another Round.” And, come on, that one didn’t just win a few hearts—it bagged the Oscar for Best International Feature Film in 2020. No big deal.
But the guy doesn’t just act. He stepped behind the camera too, making his directorial debut in 2018 with “Heavy Load.” Oh, and he co-wrote that one with his brother, Emil Millang. Clearly, talent runs in the family—must be something in the Copenhagen water. Back home in Denmark, people know him as the brains behind local hits like “Danish Dynamite” and “Sunday.” He’s got this knack for spinning comedy and satire that actually lands, not just the cringey type. Whether he’s riffing on Danish culture or crafting stories that hit you right in the feels, Millang’s pretty much cemented himself as one of Denmark’s go-to guys for smart, funny storytelling.
