Mithun Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty—yeah, the OG disco king—was actually born Gouranga Chakraborty. Guy’s done it all: acting, producing, politics, even a stint in Parliament. He started out at Oriental Seminary, then did a B.Sc. in Chemistry at Scottish Church College (Kolkata repping hard), before finally jumping into acting at FTII Pune.
Dude’s filmography? Wild. Over 350 movies, not just in Hindi and Bengali, but also Bhojpuri, Tamil, Odia, Kannada, Telugu, Punjabi… basically, if there’s a camera, he’s been in front of it. His big break came with Mrigayaa (1977)—snagged a National Award right out the gate. Early on, he had blink-and-miss roles, but Surakksha (1979) turned him into an action star. Disco Dancer (1982)? Bro, that movie went nuclear, made a hundred crores way before it was cool, and turned “Jimmy” into a household name.
Through the ‘80s and ‘90s, he just kept cranking out hits—Agneepath, Shandaar, Trinetra, and a bunch more. Not just commercial stuff, either; he grabbed more National Awards with things like Tahader Katha and Vivekananda. The 2000s? Still going strong, popping up in blockbusters and even jumping into Bhojpuri and Kannada films. He’s done OTT too—Bestseller on Amazon Prime.
The man’s racked up enough awards to need a second house. And on the personal front, he married twice (drama included), and has four kids. Oh, and he’s been the face of Panasonic, GoDaddy, Manappuram Gold… basically, he’s everywhere.
