Oguz Kaplangi
Oguz Kaplangi’s the kind of musician who seems like he’s everywhere at once, honestly. Based out of Edinburgh, but his sound? All over the map. He’s cooked up tunes for TV, theatre, ads, even films—jumping genres like it’s second nature. One minute it’s electronic, next it’s some dreamy ambient piece, then he’ll throw in Middle Eastern vibes or straight-up rock. No kidding, the guy’s got range.
Back in 2018, he snagged the “Best Music and Sound” award at the CATS Awards in Scotland, thanks to the wild soundtrack he put together for Zinnie Harris’ spin on Ionesco’s Rhinoceros. That show hit the Royal Lyceum Theatre, teamed up with the Edinburgh International Festival and DOT Theatre, so yeah, kind of a big deal.
Meanwhile, over in the States, you’ve probably heard his music on a bunch of TV shows—Wahlburgers, Donnie Loves Jenny, Nightwatch, Sexy Beasts, and even Bizarre Foods. He’s basically the background sound of reality TV without you even realizing.
The ad world’s obsessed with him too. He’s worked with heavy-hitters like Wieden+Kennedy, Ogilvy, Leo Burnett, and a laundry list of other agencies and production houses, especially back in Istanbul.
He runs Creatrax out of Edinburgh, Elec-Trip in Istanbul, and heads up Express Jingles, a music library that’s doing the rounds globally. And yeah, his discography’s stacked: from Yanginlar (2020) all the way back to Istanbul Calling, Vol.1 (2003), the guy just doesn’t quit.
