Qi Lü

Qi Lü’s name pops up a lot if you’re into modern Chinese animation, especially the bombastic, visually wild world of Ne Zha. He’s one of those folks whose fingerprints are all over the 2019 smash hit Ne Zha—and if you haven’t seen it, you’ve probably at least heard someone rant about that spinning, fireball kid with the attitude. The movie’s this reimagining of a classic myth, but it’s not dusty or boring. Nope, it’s loud, punchy, and packed with all the weird, wild magic you’d expect from a story about a boy born to defy fate. Lü’s creative input gives the film that extra dose of energy—think big action, slick character designs, and emotional beats that hit a little harder than you’d expect from an animated flick. And yeah, he’s not done. Ne Zha 2 is on the horizon for 2025, which is already making fans buzz with crazy theories and memes (because of course it is). If the first movie was this wild ride, the sequel’s probably going to crank it up even more. Plus, Lü dipped his toes into Xiao Hu Dun Da Yingxiong back in 2022, showing he’s not just a one-trick pony. That one’s got a totally different vibe—more heroic, maybe a little lighter on the chaotic energy, but still very much his style. Basically, if you see Qi Lü’s name attached to a project, you know you’re in for something that’s not afraid to be bold, weird, and just a little bit over-the-top.
