Rajeev Kapoor
Virgoan Rajiv, honestly, doesn’t get half the attention his last name deserves. The youngest son of the legendary Raj Kapoor (yeah, that Kapoor clan), Rajiv was born August 25, 1962, right in the thick of Bombay’s golden film era. Most folks just call him “Chimpu,” which, let’s be real, sounds like a nickname only a tight-knit filmi family would come up with. He’s got siblings all over the industry: Randhir, Ritu, Rima, and, of course, Rishi Kapoor. Bollywood basically runs in his blood. Babita and Neetu Singh as sisters-in-law? That’s a dinner table you wanna be at.
Family tree’s wild—Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor are his uncles, Karan, Sanjana, and Kunal are cousins, and he’s uncle to Karisma and Kareena. Oh, and Jennifer, Shashi’s wife, has her own acting creds, too.
Rajiv kicked off his leading man days in ’83 with ‘Ek Jaan Hai Hum’ and stacked up a bunch of roles after that—‘Aasman,’ ‘Zabardast,’ ‘Mera Saathi,’ ‘Lava,’ and the classic ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ (that’s the one everyone remembers). He wrapped up acting with ‘Zimmedar’ in 1990, then pivoted behind the scenes. He got his hands into everything—producing ‘Henna,’ ‘Prem Granth,’ ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen,’ and even directing ‘Prem Granth.’ Editing? Yep, did that too. Shared the screen with Mandakini, Kimi Katkar, Amrita Singh, and the list goes on.
He snagged a Filmfare Award in ’98, grabbing it for the RK banner. But if people remember Rajiv for anything, it’s gotta be his role in ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili,’ directed by his dad and produced by his brother. That film’s a proper Kapoor family affair.
