Rembrandt Beerens
Born right in the heart of Bangkok, this kid’s got a Dutch dad, a Thai mom, and somehow ended up holding both passports — talk about double the paperwork. Life took a turn in 2017, moving the family out to Portugal, landing them in Cascais, which honestly isn’t a bad spot if you’re into sun, surf, and the occasional pastel de nata. He’s got the languages down pat: English, Dutch, Portuguese — all fluent, rattled off without a hitch, though when it comes to Thai, he sort of just listens in and nods. Speaking? Nah, not his thing, but he totally gets what’s going on.
School’s no ordinary gig either — he’s enrolled at St. George’s, a Cambridge bi-curriculum setup in Cascais, where you’re just as likely to hear Shakespeare as you are to see someone prepping for a math olympiad. Outside the classroom, he doesn’t just chill. Golf? He swings. Tennis? He volleys. Skateboarding? He’s got the scrapes to prove it. Not the type to sit still, and definitely not the type to stick to just one culture or language. You could say he’s kind of a blend — a little European, a little Southeast Asian, and a whole lot of “I’ll try anything once.” Life’s messy, languages get mixed up, but he’s rolling with it, literally and figuratively.
