Rick Dugdale
Rick Dugdale, born in August ’77 up in Canada, has been popping up all over the film scene for a while now. If you’ve caught Zero Contact (2022), you’ve seen the kind of wild, tech-driven storytelling he’s into—think all that pandemic-era remote shooting, but taken to the next level. The dude’s not just a director, either; he’s got producer chops for days. Go with Me (2015) is another solid example, bringing together that gritty, small-town tension with some real powerhouse performances (Anthony Hopkins, anyone?). And Intrigo: Death of an Author (2018)? That’s European noir with a twist—mystery, double-crosses, writers with secrets. Dugdale’s fingerprints are all over it.
He’s not one of those flashy, always-on-the-red-carpet types you see everywhere, but behind the scenes, Dugdale’s hustling. He’s big on innovation and doesn’t really stick to one genre, which is kind of refreshing. One minute it’s a remote thriller shot during lockdown, the next it’s a brooding Scandi drama. You never really know what’s coming next, and honestly, that keeps things interesting. There’s this old-school work ethic to his vibe, but he mixes it with a fair bit of tech-savvy, always pushing at what’s possible when it comes to film production. You get the sense he’s in it for the long haul, always looking for the next big thing to shake up the industry.
