Roman Mitichyan
Roman Mitichyan’s story kicks off in Vanadzor, Armenia, where he basically dove headfirst into freestyle wrestling when most kids were still fumbling with shoelaces. Eight years old and already tossing people around—ridiculous, right? Anyway, not long after, he shifted gears and got deep into Sambo-Judo, training under Baxshik Saroyan. The guy just had a knack for it, like something in his DNA clicked with the sport. And it didn’t take long before he was stacking up wins and claiming the Champion title back home.
Then, in ‘97, Roman and his family uprooted and landed in the United States. That’s no small move, but instead of slowing down, Roman just found new legends to learn from—Gene Lebell and Gokor Chivichyan at the Hayastan Judo Club. These names aren’t just for show; they’re legit giants in the grappling world, and Roman soaked up every bit of knowledge they had to offer.
By 2006, he’s not just participating; he’s taking gold at the USJI National Championship. Oh, and let’s not forget—he snagged a world bronze in Sambo, and his MMA record? Nasty. 15 wins, 3 losses. Not too shabby. But honestly, what really sets Roman apart isn’t just stats or medals. It’s the way he grinds—relentless, hungry, never coasting. That work ethic? It’s not just something his coaches talk about; it’s the thing that’s pushed him to the top, both in the ring and outside of it.
