Ryan Coogler

Ryan Coogler, man—this guy’s career is wild. Born and raised in Oakland, he's not just any filmmaker, he’s basically redefining what “blockbuster” means for people who never saw themselves on the big screen before. Coogler’s been the force behind some of the most talked-about movies of the last decade. Black Panther? That was him, and you know he wasn’t playing around—he made Wakanda feel real, like it actually existed somewhere out there, and suddenly everyone wanted to be a part of it. Before that, he dropped Fruitvale Station, which was raw and emotional and just straight-up gutting. And then there’s Creed, where he took the Rocky story and spun it on its head, making it feel brand new through Adonis Creed. Honestly, he and Michael B. Jordan are like the Scorsese and De Niro of our time—always cooking up something together. Jordan’s in pretty much everything Coogler does and, weirdly, it just never gets old. Besides directing, Coogler’s also stepped into the producer game, backing the Creed sequels, the Oscar-winning Judas and the Black Messiah (that one hit different), and even messing around with the nostalgia machine on Space Jam: A New Legacy. Off camera, he’s been married to Zinzi since 2016. All in all, Coogler’s out here making movies that actually matter to people, breaking records, and not letting Hollywood box him in. Honestly, can’t wait to see what he pulls off next.
