Steven Hodge
Steven Hodge, the guy behind The Nostril Picker (1993), sort of carved out a weird little spot in cult horror history with this one. The movie’s not exactly Oscar bait, but it’s got that cheap, grimy charm that midnight movie fans just eat up. It basically follows this total loser, Joe, who’s so desperate for some action that he winds up at the mercy of a shady dude promising him the power to transform into anyone he wants. Sounds cool, right? Except the guy’s a creep and uses his new skill to turn into a teenage girl. Yeah, it gets weird fast.
Things spiral as Joe, in his new disguise, infiltrates a local high school, blending in like some kind of deranged chameleon. He gets way too comfortable in his role, stalking girls and, of course, the movie doesn’t skimp on the sleaze or the gore. It’s got all the hallmarks of cheap ‘90s horror: questionable acting, bizarre writing choices, and a healthy dose of “what am I even watching?”
The Nostril Picker isn’t for the faint-hearted or anyone expecting a polished flick. It’s trash cinema at its finest—or worst, depending on your taste. But honestly, that’s the whole appeal. It’s the kind of movie you watch with friends late at night, half-laughing, half-groaning at the utter absurdity of it all. Steven Hodge may not be a household name, but for fans of bizarre, offbeat horror, his work here definitely leaves a mark—whether you want it or not.
