Supriya Pathak Kapur, born 7 January 1961, kind of owns that “cult favorite” status in Hindi cinema, you know? She’s got that effortless presence—probably comes from her roots; her mother was the legendary actress Dina Pathak. Grew up in a Gujarati household, soaked up theatre craft before even thinking about films. When she finally jumped into movies, it was like the universe just handed her a Filmfare Award right out the gate for ‘Kalyug’ (1981). Not a bad way to kick off, honestly. She didn’t slow down, either. Her role in ‘Bazaar’ (1982) was another knockout—critics loved her, audience loved her, and yep, another Filmfare for Best Supporting Actress landed on her shelf. She even took a wild detour into French cinema with ‘The Bengali Night’ in ‘88, and then swung back around for the massive Bollywood hit ‘Shahenshah’ the same year. Somewhere in there, she married Pankaj Kapur—yeah, the actor-director guy—and kind of pressed pause on her film gigs for a bit. But Supriya’s not one to stay away from the spotlight for too long. Early 2000s, she popped back up on TV in the comedy series ‘Khichdi’ as Hansa Parekh, and honestly, it’s hard to imagine that show without her. Won an Indian Telly Award for that, too. Fast forward to 2013, she turned up in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ and—surprise, surprise—nabbed another Filmfare for Best Supporting Actress.
