Tom Nicholson grew up in the beachy little town of Marshfield, Massachusetts—basically the kind of place where everyone knows your business and the ocean is always a block away. College took him to Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, where he dove headfirst into film production and scraped his way to a degree in Mass Communication/Production by 2003. Instead of sticking around in the Northeast, Tom packed his bags for Los Angeles. You know, where people actually make movies, and traffic is legendary. Out there, he hustled—seriously, the guy’s been involved in more than 55 feature films, plus a pile of shorts, music videos, commercials, and all sorts of branded content. Basically, if there’s a camera and a deadline, chances are he’s been in the mix. In 2012, he made it into the Directors Guild of America, which, let’s be honest, is no small feat. When he was just sixteen, he and his brother Bill Nicholson basically hijacked the family video camera and jumped straight into filmmaking. Not kidding, they wrote, directed, and even edited their own movie before they could legally drive. It wasn’t some half-baked home video either—they were obsessed, staying up way too late, probably annoying the neighbors with fake explosions and dramatic yelling. Their parents might’ve thought it was just a phase, but nah, these guys were legit about it. The whole process? Total DIY madness. They roped in friends, used whatever props they could find around the house, and probably learned more about movie-making by screwing up than from any class. That first film?
