Todd Martin? Oh, he’s one of those guys you kinda wish you could just borrow a fraction of his talent for a weekend, right? His first full-length feature, The Novice (directed by Lauren Hadaway), didn’t just show up at Tribeca in 2021, it walked off with Best Cinematography and snagged Best U.S. Narrative Feature. Not bad for a debut—makes you wonder if he’s got some sort of cheat code for film festivals. But hang on, he’s not just a one-hit wonder. Back in 2019, Todd’s work on Lowland Kids (Sandra Winther’s short doc) showed up at SXSW and then just went on a rampage, picking up Best Short Documentary at Palm Springs, Minneapolis, and even at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen. The guy basically collects awards like some people collect vintage Star Wars figures. That same year, he teamed up with Greg Hackett on Tam Tam, which ended up getting a nomination at Camerimage. Camerimage isn’t exactly your neighborhood film club—that’s the real deal for cinematographers. So yeah, people in the biz were definitely paying attention. New York born and bred, Todd sharpened his skills at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (because of course he did). He’s been around the block in the commercial and music video world too, shooting for heavyweights like Apple, Google, Nike, and Vogue. Oh, and he’s worked with artists like Jay-Z, J-Cole, Radiohead, Iggy Pop—you know, just a casual Tuesday. These days, you’ll find him splitting his time between New York and London, probably dodging rain in both places and dreaming up whatever’s next.
