Tom Hodge
Tom Hodge, an Ivor Novello nominee, has quietly become one of the UK’s most inventive film and TV composers. He’s worked with some proper heavyweights—four collaborations with Oscar-winner Kevin Macdonald, for starters. That’s The Mauritanian, the wild John Galliano doc, Last Song From Kabul, and the gritty Klitschko: More Than a Fight. Then there’s the soundtrack for McMafia and The Ipcress File, both of which turned heads with their moody, sharp scores for James Watkins. Hodge also left his mark on Ed Lovelace's moving documentary Name Me Lawand, racked up credits on Netflix’s action juggernaut Extraction 2, and, oh, his music for Rise of the Nazis ended up nabbing an Ivor Novello nom. Not exactly a quiet career.
Next year looks like another wild ride for him. He’s already locked in to score Martin Campbell’s upcoming action thriller Cleaner—Daisy Ridley’s attached, so expect something big and bombastic. He’s also teaming up with Aoife Kelleher for Testimony, a documentary that’s already getting plenty of buzz for how raw and honest it looks. Hodge is known for blending classical chops with that electronic edge, so you never really know what he’ll pull out of his hat. Basically, if there’s a film or show that sticks with you because of the music, odds are good Hodge had something to do with it. The guy just doesn’t miss.
