Varun Gupta. If Bollywood had a human mascot, well, he’d probably be it. The guy doesn’t just like movies—he breathes them. Obsessed doesn’t even cut it, honestly. While everyone else in India gets distracted by cricket or maybe a Marvel flick here and there, Varun’s the one dude who’s all in for Bollywood, all the time. Not even a little FOMO for Hollywood or IPL matches. Wild, right? He always wanted a piece of the movie world since he was a kid—like half of India, let’s be real. But, unlike most, he figured out pretty early that acting and direction weren’t exactly his thing (thank the stars). Instead, he leaned into film marketing and strategy, which, let’s face it, is where the magic happens behind the scenes. After getting his Masters in Marketing & Communications from Symbiosis and brushing up his chops at IIM Calcutta, he kicked off his career promoting Marathi films. Not long after, he landed at Dharma Productions, working under Karan Johar—yeah, the big boss himself. Three and a half years there? That’s pretty much a PhD in Bollywood marketing. But here’s where it gets spicy: Varun’s a bit of a risk junkie and hates being too comfortable. So he ditched the cozy studio life to launch MAX Marketing—a creative powerhouse for film promotion. Now, MAX is all about giving filmmakers the full package: killer marketing, bold ideas, and, obviously, making sure every movie smashes through the noise and actually gets seen. Maximum impact, no half-measures. That’s just how Varun rolls.
