Wael Hamdy
Wael Hamdy’s been hustling in film and TV for over two decades, cranking out more than 20 screenplays—yeah, the guy’s got range. He kicked things off with Aalam Semsem, Egypt’s take on Sesame Street, steering the screenwriting workshop since 2006. That’s a lot of puppets, honestly, but apparently a killer launchpad for a creative career. By 2017, he was mentoring film projects in the Birthmark Scenario workshop, with Bashtery Ragel (you might’ve spotted it on Netflix as “A Man Wanted”) dropping as its debut. Then, in 2022, Hamdy jumped back into the mentor seat for the 6X6 lab workshop—this one in Kuwait, thanks to NCIG and Netflix, aiming to whip six Gulf TV projects into shape.
Right now, he’s flexing his creative muscles as a consultant at Shasha, a new streaming platform that just landed in Kuwait. Not just a screen guy, though; Hamdy’s got some serious journalism chops, too. He’s done time as an editor and film critic, scribbling for all sorts of newspapers and magazines. From 2003 to 2007, he ran the show as managing editor at Good News Cinema magazine. Fun twist? He ditched engineering school to chase his writing dreams—pretty gutsy move, but hey, it worked out. Talk about someone who doesn’t just follow the script—he writes his own.
