Woody Fu
Woody Fu’s all over your screen these days, and honestly, it’s about time. This dude’s been grinding for ages, starting out in New York and now tearing it up in LA. You’ve probably caught him on every streaming service known to man—Netflix, Hulu, Comedy Central, you name it—usually rubbing elbows with people like Awkwafina, Will Ferrell, and Amy Schumer. And if you haven’t spotted him yet, just wait—he’s about to pop up in Amazon’s “The Runarounds.”
He didn’t just land here outta nowhere. Woody basically grew up at UCB, doing improv, sketch, you know, all the stuff that turns people into absolute comedy monsters. He even made moves overseas, breaking barriers as Boom Chicago’s first Asian American actor in Amsterdam, then killing it at Edinburgh Fringe with Baby Wants Candy and “Thrones! The Musical”—yep, he played Jon Snow and probably nailed the accent.
Solo work? Oh, he’s got that too. “Asian Gracefully” got a shoutout in The New York Times, and “Too Many Asians!” was so good it toured LA and Montreal. And don’t even get started on “Woody Fu: One-Man John Wick”—sold out at Hollywood Fringe, now prepping for a bigger tour. The guy’s relentless.
What really sets him apart, though, is how he dives into the Asian American experience. His digital shorts aren’t afraid to get messy—sex, stereotypes, trauma (and yeah, he finds the comedy in it), plus anime and some brutal honesty about racism within the community. People have noticed: Vulture, HuffPost, Slamdance, film fests all over. Oh, and he writes for the Onion and co-hosts the Emotional Slut podcast. Guy’s unstoppable.
