Woody Harrelson
Woody Harrelson, man, what a wild ride that guy's had. Born in Texas back in ’61, but honestly, he’s always felt more like an Ohio dude since he grew up there with his mom. He hit the books for theater and English at Hanover College, snagged his diplomas, then bounced to New York chasing that acting dream. Didn’t take long before he landed the role of Woody on Cheers—yeah, that Cheers, the sitcom everyone’s grandma loved, and honestly, who didn’t? That gig basically launched him into the stratosphere, and he even bagged an Emmy for it in '89.
But, you know, Woody wasn’t about to stay glued to a barstool forever. He started dipping his toes in film towards the end of Cheers, and by the early ‘90s, he was showing up everywhere. Doc Hollywood in ’91 gave him his first real taste of movie fame, and then bam—White Men Can't Jump, Indecent Proposal, Natural Born Killers. Dude was unstoppable.
Fast forward a bit, and he’s popping up in some serious heavy hitters—No Country for Old Men, Zombieland, 2012, Friends with Benefits, even that HBO movie Game Change. But let’s be real, a whole new generation knows him as Haymitch from The Hunger Games—drunk, hilarious, and weirdly wise. Those movies blew up, and he kept coming back for more sequels.
Along the way, he’s snagged two Oscar noms—one for playing Larry Flynt, and another for The Messenger. Toss in some Golden Globe nods, a killer role in The Edge of Seventeen, and yeah, Woody’s not slowing down. Oh, and for the record, he’s a family guy now, married to Laura Louie with three daughters. Not too shabby.
