Storyline
Indira Gandhi, despite her dad Nehru’s misgivings, dives into politics and starts making waves. She really puts herself out there during the Indo-China war, visiting Assam and urging people not to run away from their homeland—sort of planting her flag as a leader people could actually see in action. Then Nehru dies, and with all eyes on her, she steps into the big shoes, becoming India’s first (and, yeah, only) female Prime Minister. Her time in office? Not exactly a walk in the park. She deals with all sorts of chaos, like the whole Bangladesh situation in ’71. But things start getting pretty messy when her son Sanjay—who, let’s be real, has a bit of a wild reputation—becomes her right-hand man. He’s got a knack for stirring up trouble, but she sticks by him, probably because he gets her in a way no one else does. The party starts falling apart, senior leaders bail, and Indira’s position gets shaky. With her back against the wall, she goes for broke and declares a national emergency, flipping the political scene on its head.
