AMSTERDAM, Sept 12 (Askume) – Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS said on Thursday it will decide by Nov. 1 whether to take part in next year’s Eurovision after this year’s Dutch candidate Joost Klein was disqualified , confirming what the broadcaster previously reported.
The broadcaster said in a statement that it was in talks with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organises the event.
“In order to make this constructive dialogue a success, AVROTROS requested that the decision on participation be postponed. The EBU has approved the postponement until 1 November, for which we are grateful.”
The broadcaster said in June it was unsure whether it would take part in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland , after 2024 contestant Klein was disqualified following a complaint by a female production member.
Swedish prosecutors closed the investigation into the incident in August, stating that Klein’s hand movements “were seen differently by witnesses to the incident.”
Klein, 26, who sang the quirky song “Europapa,” was initially considered the favorite to win the annual competition, which was held this year in the Swedish city of Malmo.
