Storyline
Back in the summer of 1939, 12-year-old Donn Fendler heads out into the wilds of northern Maine, thinking it’ll be the usual camping trip. Nah, not even close. He ends up totally lost, miles from anything familiar, and what starts as a simple detour turns into a straight-up nightmare. Donn’s fighting more than just hunger, exhaustion, and the creepy crawlies that come with the woods—he’s got this heavy weight from a rocky relationship with his dad, too. It’s like every mosquito bite and cold night just reminds him of how things broke down between them, and how he might never get the chance to fix it. The forest isn’t just trees and shadows—it becomes this weird, almost living challenge, pushing him way past what anyone expects from a kid. The days drag on, hope flickers, but Donn’s stubbornness keeps him moving. The whole thing’s not just about surviving in the wild, but about wrestling with regret and holding onto the sliver of hope that he’ll see his dad again—and maybe put the pieces back together.
